Beyond the Classroom

At The Science Academy STEM Magnet, nurturing social and emotional intelligence is just as important as academics. Numerous studies have shown that close friendships in middle and high school can affect academic performance in the form of more positive attitudes toward school and learning, and act as buffers to lessen stress, anxiety, and depression. We strive to create opportunities to help our students develop close, positive friendships and a sense of community, which is one of the pillars of The Science Academy’s educational philosophy.

Our Parents

Many research studies show that students with involved parents are more likely to have higher grades and test scores, attend school regularly, have better social skills, show improved behavior, and adapt well to school. Additionally, when parents are involved, the performance of all the children at school, not just their own, tends to improve.

At the Science Academy STEM Magnet, we encourage parents to be an active partner in their student’s life and education. We provide a variety of avenues for involvement via our parent association the Science Academy Fundraising Initiative (SciFI), volunteer opportunities, and student and parent social events; utilize various channels of communication to ensure parents stay informed; and provide tools and parent education to empower parents to help their child achieve their potential.
